Through our partnership with Higher Ground NDC, SambaFunk! is reaching back and teaching Carnival Arts and Education in 5 East Oakland elementary schools while other Funkquarians are sharing our cultural message as local educators throughout the Oakland and San Fransisco Unified School Districts.
SambaFunk!’s youth programs are custom designed to fit individual community site needs. We use a dual-language approach in our teaching and strive to increase youth perspective and worldview through immersion in the Carnaval Arts disciplines, drumming, dancing and costume making. Our goal is to further develop youth team building, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills.
SambaFunk! teachers also called Urban Griots, are able to engage and make meaningful impact on students with a wide range of abilities and needs. Programs are available after-school and on weekends.
SambaFunk! routinely participates in the Summer Emerging Leaders program in Marin, California under the directorship of Baba Mosheh Milon Sr.
