Born In Berkeley CA, Joy has been dancing since the age of three. Joy attended Berkeley High School where she was a part of the dance dept as well as the Track and Field team. Joy attended Humboldt State University where she obtained a triple bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics , and Interdisciplinary dance studies. While attending Humboldt State, Joy was on the Track and Field team, became the President of Demolition Dance Squad which performed at the school half time shows and opened for big acts that had concerts in the school town, and was a part of a few other school clubs. Through HSU’s dance dept , Joy was able to travel to Spain to teach and tour with a few selected faculty. After Spain, Joy opened up “Oh Boys” dance studio in Eureka CA, where she taught all ages focusing on styles of Modern and Hip Hop.

After graduating, Joy became a part of Barbea Williams Performing Company in Tucson AZ. This performance company trained in styles of Dunum, Modern, Ballet and different types of African movements. Joy moved back to CA and became a member of SambaFunk. Through SambaFunk , Joy trained and learned the different styles and techniques. Joy became one of principal dancers for Sambafunk and competed on behalf of SambaFunk in San Francisco’s Queen and King of Carnival competition where she won first runner up. Joy has performed in the community as well as taught classes to all ages with SambaFunk . Joy has been with SambaFunk for 9 years and is now a lead teacher and costume designer for SambaFunk.

Recently Joy travelled to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and participated in Rio Carnival. While there, she paraded with 3 different contingencies. She held two titles, Rainha da Batria Imperio Zona Norte 2022 and Princesa da Escola Vigário Geral 2022. The 3rd contingency was with Vidadoro as a dancer on a float in 2022.

Currently is dancing in Oakland CA and plans to return to Brazil in 2025.
