This week in Funkquaria

MUSIC AND PERFORMANCES

Last year we recorded our own original version of Lift Every Voice and Sing. This year we’re dropping a video in honor of MLK Day, coming soon. We also have new purple Lift Every Voice shirts, available in class for $15, proceeds of which go to support SambaFunk!

CLASSES

WEEKDAY WARRIORS – Wednesday evening classes are back on! Join us from 6pm-7:30 at Westlake Middle School for Intro to Samba and Crunch Time Body Sculpt. Joy Broussard will be teaching this week while Theo is in Brazil this week to study and train.

#SAMBACHURCH – As usual, we’ll be at the Malonga from 4-6pm next Sunday. Ezra Bristow will be teaching choreo for Carnival. It’s also the first Sunday of the month — Purple Sunday — so wear something purple to show your SambaFunk support. And don’t forget to support our drummers by bringing fruit, water and snacks to share and/or contributing $2-$5 to the Drum Fund. This can be done when registering for class. Their weekly participation is truly a labor of love.

CARNIVAL: PILLARS OF CHANGE

Oakland Carnival is June 6, 2020. Our theme is Pillars of Change and we are already at work on costumes. Everyone is invited to participate in this multigenerational experience. If you have children who would like to be in the children’s section, let Theo know as soon as possible.
